The city of Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, the second largest city in that country, and one of the UK’s major economic hubs. In fact, Edinburgh has the second strongest local economy in the UK, behind only London. At the centre of the city’s economic activity is a booming financial services sector that continues to bring more wealth into the region every single year. Edinburgh is also strong in tourism, life sciences, technology, and higher education.
A metro-wide population in excess of 1.3 million means there is a lot of economic activity going on in and around Edinburgh. All of that activity requires a robust logistics sector to make it work. Every day thousands of lorries traverse local roads, bringing consumer goods and supplies into the city while taking away products for export. Likewise, local bus and coach companies ferry thousands of passengers in, out and around Edinburgh at all hours of the day and night. What does this mean to you? It means the opportunity to get a job as a professional driver after undergoing HGV training in Edinburgh.
It is no secret that the haulage and transport industries are now desperately short of drivers. Shortages are most severe in major cities like Edinburgh, where demand for reliable transport outstrips supply. The shortage is so severe that companies are aggressively competing with one another to recruit, train, and retain the best drivers in the business. Suffice to say, they will compete for your attentions should you decide to obtain a commercial driving licence.

Our Training Offers You Choices
Our company name reflects the fact that the majority of students going through our training programmes are doing so to obtain HGV licences. However, we are not limited to a single licence training programme. We offer training for commercial driving licences of all classifications. The four most common licences we train for are as follows:
- Category C – This is the licence held by most lorry drivers. It enables drivers to operate vehicles heavier than 3500 kg with trailers of up to 750 kg.
- Category C+E – This licence is intended for the largest and heaviest of lorries, construction equipment, and so on. It allows drivers to operate vehicles heavier than 3500 kg with trailers in excess of 750 kg.
- Category D – The category D licence is the standard licence for professional coach and bus drivers. This licence will enable you to drive minibuses, city buses, and large coaches with trailers of up to 750 kg.
- Category D+E – Obtaining a category D licence would enable you to operate coaches and buses with trailers of more than 750 kg in tow. Someone driving a bus for a concert promoter would likely have this kind of licence to account for the gear being towed behind.
We also train for Category C1 and C1+E licences as well. Do not be afraid to ask about them if your needs don’t place you in one of the other training courses. We have all the necessary information to ensure you take the right training course to earn the right kind of licence.
Our Training Prepares You to Be Successful
Why do people undergo formal training to become professional drivers? There are two reasons. First, regulations require new professional drivers to undergo a minimum amount of CPC training in order to earn their qualification cards. CPC training is required at least once every five years during a professional driver’s career. This training would be the absolute minimum necessary to get a commercial driving licence.
The second purpose of training is to prepare yourself to take the four exams required to get your licence. You do not technically need training for this purpose, but it is almost impossible to pass your tests without it. Taking the four tests without training would be like attempting to get a physician’s licence without going to medical school. It is nearly impossible to do.
Our training is specifically designed to ensure your testing endeavours are successful. Simply put, we want you to pass each one on the first try. We have no intention of training you in such a way as to increase your chances of failing and having to repeat. Our philosophy is ‘one and done’.
To that end, our training is focused and concentrated. We sometimes describe our training methodology as fast-paced and intense due to the way we present information. For example, our HGV training in Edinburgh does not include a lecture series that requires you to sit in a large classroom listening to instructors drone on hour after hour. It does not belabour you with an overwhelming amount of information that you are expected to put together over months of training.
What you will find as an HGV Training Centre student is a training approach that involves presenting information in short, concentrated bursts. Each information burst is followed by the next in quick succession, allowing you to connect the dots between concepts. We have found this is an excellent way to boost both factual learning and overall comprehension. And when students learn and comprehend, they approach their exams with a tremendous amount of confidence.
Our training covers a long list of topics in three primary categories:
- Driving Theory – There are an enormous amount of theoretical principles that go into safe driving. Physics is but one example. The laws of physics demand that drivers account for weight and speed when determining how much distance they need to stop. These are the kinds of things we teach in driving theory.
- Practical Skills – Regulations require that professional drivers possess particular practical skills relating to their jobs. These skills are all laid out in the Driver CPC syllabus. We teach drivers these valuable skills quickly and effectively. They include things such as load balancing, conducting safety checks, and preventing illegal migration.
- Driving Skills – Obviously, professional drivers need a certain set of physical skills to safely handle lorries and buses. We teach those skills and give drivers plenty of opportunities to practice in late-model vehicles. For a lot of students, this is the most enjoyable part of the training process.
Our Training Creates Opportunity
The HGV Training Centre did not become the nation’s leading provider of professional driver training by accident. We become the industry leader by training our students in a way that ensures their long-term success as professionals. In that sense, you could say that our training creates opportunities by producing drivers who are ready to succeed as soon as they have their licences in hand.
When potential employers see our name listed as your HGV training provider, they will know you have been trained according to the highest standards of professionalism. They will know you are prepared to be a productive employee more than capable of getting the job done. That knowledge will put you near the top of the list of candidates for just about any job.
Our HGV training in Edinburgh will not guarantee you a job straightaway, but it will open up plenty of doors of opportunity. We enhance those opportunities through job placement assistance that we offer every student that completes their training with us. We will do our best to help you get a job as soon as you have your licence.
Get Trained, Get to Work
Have we piqued your interest in HGV training in Edinburgh? We hope so. Professional driving is an excellent career choice for people of all ages. If you are the kind of person who likes to be out and about rather than confined to an office all day, professional driving could be just what you are looking for.
Embarking on a professional driving career starts by getting trained. The sooner you complete your training, the sooner you can get your licence and get to work. Train with us and you could be applying for jobs in less than a few months. We will come alongside and guide you through the training and licencing process every step of the way. Our goal is to successfully train as many new drivers as we possibly can, and we work very hard to achieve this objective. Why not put us to the test?
