COURSE IN South Gloucestershire

On any given day, the roads in South Gloucestershire are filled with articulated lorries and box trucks hauling equipment and supplies for companies such as Airbus, Hewlett-Packard, and Rolls-Royce. They are hauling consumer goods destined for The Mall, Cribs Causeway and other major retail shopping centres in the region. Some are even carrying military supplies destined for the Ministry of Defence headquarters. Each and every one of those vehicles is being driven by a licenced driver who first had to be trained as a professional.

No professional HGV or LGV driver found him/herself applying for professional driving jobs by accident. You cannot even apply for a job without a commercial driving licence, and getting one’s licence requires undergoing extensive training that includes passing four different tests established by the Driver CPC mandate. This is why we established our HGV training in South Gloucestershire. We want the opportunity to train as many new drivers as we can in order to support the South Gloucestershire economy.

Our school in South Gloucestershire is not the only one we operate. In fact, it is just one of more than four dozen schools we operate all across the UK. Our size allows us to train hundreds of new drivers every month, drivers who go on to take jobs that see them moving all sorts of cargo in and out of South Gloucestershire.

In case you didn’t know, there are lots of different professional driving jobs to choose from. Here are just a few examples:

  • Local Delivery – Local drivers use articulated lorries, cargo vans, and box trucks to make local deliveries in villages, towns, and major cities. They tend to travel the same routes every day and enjoy being able to go home every evening.
  • Regional Delivery – Regional drivers travel a bit further from their base, using articulated lorries and box trucks to carry cargo throughout designated geographical regions. Some regional drivers may be confined to a single county; others may span multiple counties. They are usually home most nights.
  • Long-Haul – Long-haul trucking is what most of us think about when we hear talk of HGV and LGV training. Drivers who work these kinds of jobs find themselves travelling all across Europe. They can spend days at a time on the road, going wherever their loads take them. Long-haul drivers enjoy the highest pay, but they certainly earn it.
  • Intermodal Transport – Intermodal transport involves shipping over land, sea, and air. Drivers involved in this sort of transport usually find themselves hauling shipping containers between ports, rail yards, and distribution centres. Speed and efficiency are the hallmarks of intermodal transport.

Within these four categories, there are lots of different opportunities. For example, you could earn an additional entitlement that would enable you to transport dangerous goods, like petrol. Such an entitlement would boost your pay significantly while also opening the door to more job opportunities.

You Need a Licence to Work

Hopefully, knowing all of the possibilities that exist out there has piqued your interest in professional driving. But you need to get a licence before you can start applying for one of the tens of thousands of open jobs. That is where our HGV training in South Gloucestershire comes into play. Training with us makes it possible for you to get your licence in a short amount of time.

When you partner with the HGV Training Centre, it will not take you 6 to 12 months to get your licence. You won’t be attending training classes for years on end in the hope of being awarded a degree at some point. No, you will be going to class for just a few weeks. Provided you apply yourself and learn relatively quickly, there is no reason you cannot be licenced and looking for a job in under two months.

You need a licence; we can help you get. That’s what our HGV training in South Gloucestershire is all about. We know what it takes to get a licence: effective training that prepares you to pass the four required tests on your first try. We can provide that training at our school in South Gloucestershire.

Testing Makes All the Difference

Make no mistake about the fact that testing makes all the difference to professional drivers. Why? Because the government will not give you a commercial driving licence if you cannot pass its tests. There is nothing more to it than that. They use tests to determine whether a driver possesses the skill and knowledge to be safe behind the wheel. If you pass, you get a licence.

With testing as important as it is, doesn’t it make sense to work with a training company who knows what it takes to pass those tests? Here at the HGV Training Centre, we are proud to say that we have what it takes. More than 90% of our students pass their tests successfully. We achieve such a high first-time pass rate by focusing our classes primarily on those tests.

The road to successfully obtaining a commercial driving licence passes through the following four tests:

  • Theory Test – The first test you will take in the four-test series is the theory test. This two-part exam is designed to measure a student’s knowledge of general highway safety and hazard avoidance. Students must score 85 on the first part and 67 on the second part to pass. Both parts must be passed within two years to remain valid.
  • Case Studies Test – The second test in the series is the case studies test. A passing grade is needed to qualify for the initial CPC card drivers are required to obtain. This test includes scenarios that drivers might experience in the working world along with multiple-choice questions about those scenarios.
  • Driving Skills Test – Upon completion of your formal training, you will take the two-part driving skills test at an approved facility. This test determines whether you possess the actual skill and knowledge to drive large commercial vehicles. It includes driving on public roads and solo driving on a closed course.
  • Practical Demonstration Test – Regulations require professional drivers to be familiar with the Driver CPC syllabus. Knowledge of the syllabus is tested through the practical demonstration test, the final test in the series. This test is usually taken during the same session as the driving skills test.

Although these tests may seem intimidating at first glance, there is no need to worry. Our proven training courses prepare students to face the tests with confidence that they will pass. Rest assured our HGV training in South Gloucestershire will make you more than ready to perform beyond even your own expectations. You can do this, and we can help.

Training You Can Count On

All of those professional drivers you see on the road in South Gloucestershire underwent training somewhere. They rely on their training throughout their careers, remembering what they learned and applying that knowledge. As you can see, your choice of training schools will be important for your entire career.

We want you to know that the HGV Training Centre provides the high-quality training you can count on. As members of the Freight Transport Association and Logistics Guild, we must maintain a high set of standards worthy of the transport and haulage industries. As an approved provider of CPC training, we must meet the standards of the Joint Approvals Units for Periodic Training (JAUPT).
