You’ve seen the bright red lorry with a larger-than-life Father Christmas on the Coca-Cola television adverts. Now the world’s most iconic beverage manufacturer is preparing to take the lorry on a 52-stop tour beginning on 23rd November. According to the Bristol Post, the tour will make a stop at the Mall at Cribbs Causeway on 12th December.

Company officials say the tour is designed to recognise cities and towns across the UK that exhibit the most kindness and the greatest holiday spirit. Destinations were chosen based on survey answers from more than 2,500 participants. All of the ‘kindness hotspots’ will undoubtedly roll out the red carpet for the Coca-Cola lorry. At Bristol, their celebration will include Christmas decorations, a carol-singing choir, and elves passing out free drinks.

The holiday themed lorry has become a Christmas icon both here and in the United States. It’s no surprise given the history of Coca-Cola as the first-ever commercially available soft drink. Both the drink and its trademarked name is the stuff of fond holiday memories for people of all generations.

In light of the kindness tour, we wondered whether it requires a special truck licence to operate the Coca-Cola lorry. Probably not. However, the company undoubtedly requires one of the finest drivers in their fleet operate it. After all, this driver will be representing not only the Coca-Cola Company but also its holiday message. The lucky individual has to be a consummate professional and something of a public-relations officer at the same time.

Learn to Drive a Lorry

While there’s only one driver selected to operate the Coca-Cola Christmas lorry every year, there is still plenty of work out there for anyone who wants to earn a truck licence. Right now, the industry is scrambling to find drivers for all sorts of positions, including both short and long haul routes.

If you have been thinking of earning a truck licence then you’ll be happy to know that you can do so in a matter of months. When you train with the HGV Training Centre, we concentrate on teaching you exactly what you need to pass your tests. What’s more, we use an intense and fast-paced approach that has proved rather effective over the years.

All you need to get started is a regular car licence and reasonably good health. You will have to pass a medical exam administered by an NHS physician or a certified private doctor, and then apply for a provisional entitlement that will allow you to undergo practical skills training. While you’re waiting for your entitlement to arrive, you’ll need to study for your LGV theory test – a 100-question multiple-choice test covering general highway safety and hazard avoidance.

Once you pass your theory test, all that remains is your practical skills training and your final road test. The HGV Training Centre can prepare you to pass that test on the first try. We will even send one of our trainers with you to the test location when the time comes.
