According to a report from News North Wales, recruiters have seen an increase in demand of about 30% over the same time last year.
One recruiter told a news outlet that demand typically goes up at this time of year due to the cyclical nature of the haulage and logistics industries. However, the increases that they are seeing recently go well above normal. Drivers are needed for a variety of sectors including retail, manufacturing, and logistics.
In addition, local recruiters believe the increased demand for HGV drivers may be a harbinger of a better economy. Because drivers are hired over so many different sectors, some belief the increased demand suggests the economic recovery in the UK is accelerating. Hopefully that’s true.
In the meantime, recruiters are working overtime to match licensed HGV, lorry, and van drivers to their clients.
