London is surrounded by some excellent places to go camping and caravanning. There are parks where you can roll up with your caravan in tow where you’ll find all the facilities you could possibly need, and you’ll feel like you’ve really managed to get away from it all.


Here are our picks for places to enjoy your caravan holiday near London this spring and summer, so pack up your things, check your towing licence, and set off for some peace and quiet.


1. Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Park

One of the most well known and popular places to go camping and caravanning near London, Lee Valley is close to the centre of London and has a variety of facilities and activities for you to take advantage of.

As well as caravan pitches, there are glamping options and camping spaces. You can go walking or cycling nearby, or even try white water rafting. Among the attractions on the site itself are an adventure playground, games and sports, and even Wi-Fi.


2. Walton on Thames campsite

Also close to the centre of London, Walton on Thames campsite has a peaceful setting by the river which makes it feel like you’re out in the middle of nowhere – in a good way.

Green and luscious, the campsite offers activities including horse riding, golf, Nordic walking and even llama trekking. You can also pick your own fruit and vegetables at a site nearby at certain times during the year.


3. Abbey Wood Caravan Club

This green and leafy space is also a short drive from the centre of London. It’s big and quiet, with gentle slopes and a remote and rural feel.

You can go cycling in the area, and it’s the ideal place to bring your dogs for a run around in the countryside. There are also river cruises close by, as well as shops and restaurants.


4. Crystal Palace Caravan Club

Popular and a short drive from central London, this caravan club is on the edge of a park with lots of pubs, shops and restaurants nearby, as well as cycling routes.

You can even use the site as a base for visiting some of the big events in London such as the Ideal Homes Exhibition or the London Marathon because of its convenient location.


5. Theobalds Park

Outside the M25 north of London, this park is secluded and provides a great base for exploring nature. You can go walking, cycling or fishing nearby in the various green spaces, trails, rivers and ponds. It’s also a great base to explore the famous Epping Forest.

6. Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club

This caravan park is in a quiet riverside location just a short drive from central London. You can see lots of wildlife around the area including foxes and birds, and you can go canoeing nearby too.


7. Debden House

In the middle of Epping Forest, this site has lots of facilities for a fun and convenient stay. There’s a cafe, laundry facilities and a shop, as well as a play area for children. It’s well located for exploring the forest, and for visiting central London, giving you a choice of urban and rural experiences.
