If you have your van driving licence and you work in Norfolk, you might want to keep an eye out for a man who calls himself Ricky Muddy. Apparently, he has taken to adorning Norfolk’s dirty white vans with graffiti art. You could walk inside to make a delivery only to find, on your return, that your van has become a canvas for one of Muddy’s drawings.

Have no fear, however. The BBC reports that Muddy’s artwork does not involve any paint or etching. Instead, he takes advantage of the dirt he finds on the van itself. The BBC says Muddy – his real name is Ricky Minns – uses a fingertip to trace the outline of his chosen subject, followed by detailing with a tissue or cotton bud. There is nothing complicated or damaging involved.

Minns told the BBC that he has received no complaints thus far. In fact, he said some van owners have actually contacted him to thank him for his work. One look at a finished project explains why. You see, Ricky Muddy does not settle for the standard ‘clean me’ that other would-be artists are content to display. He creates legitimate works that can be incredibly detailed.

He calls his work ‘graffilthy art’ based on the fact that his only medium is the dirt and filth stuck to the side of a van. Moreover, while he knows every piece will disappear with the next vehicle wash, he is happy to provide van owners and casual observers a pleasant experience for as long as it lasts.

Commercial Driving As a Career

It is nice to see Mr Minns doing his small part to create something positive. It is especially nice to see him do it for an industry that far too often is seen in a very critical light. Van drivers have a very difficult job that demands constant attention and diligence on their part. Giving them something to smile about is a nice gesture.

As far as careers go, working as a commercial van driver is one you might find attractive. It is a career choice that requires flexibility, the ability to work unsupervised, and an attention to detail and safety. However, it is also a career choice offering good pay and plenty of future opportunity.
