A PCV Licence or to put it simply, a bus licence, entitles you to drive a bus / coach or minibus. Job opportunities in this are great, with many firms offering over £550 a week to drive city-based buses. To gain your PCV Licence, you’ll need one of the following qualifications, which are based on the type and load capacity of the vehicle you want to drive:
Category ‘D1’ PCV Licence –the ‘D1’ licence is required to drive a minibus with a maximum of 16 seats on board. If you gained your car licence before 1997 you may have acquired rights to drive a D1 minibus – BUT you may be restricted to driving for non-profit only. This means that if your job requires you to drive a minibus (teacher, health worker etc), you will need to take your licence and test. Call us now for independent expert advice on the matter.
Category ‘D’ PCV Licence – the ‘D’ Licence is required to drive a full-size bus or coach that has over 16 seats. If you’re looking to become a full-time coach or bus driver, you’ll need to get the full ‘D’ Category on your licence. Once you gain your Cat ‘D’ PCV, you’ll also gain your ‘D1’ PCV too – this means you’ll be fully qualified to drive any type of bus / coach on the road!
