Uber have been told in no uncertain terms to stop operating in London. The legal decision was made by Transport For London (TFL), who said the taxi operator was not fit to hold a licence in the city. This decision will see approximately 40,000 Uber drivers lose their jobs, although Uber has a short time to appeal the ruling.

Although it might seem like the end of a driving career for the thousands of drivers affected, there is some good news that could help them move into new work very quickly. There are currently 50,000 vacancies for HGV drivers, meaning Uber drivers could retrain in a short time and take up a whole new role on the road.  While the training will teach drivers new skills, and their vehicles will be different, the rules of the road remain the same, meaning the drivers can go straight into professional driving.
