Last year we started to see a noticeable increase in the demand for new vans among non-contractor owners. It now appears that the same owners are also interested in used vans as long as these are priced in line with their condition. Demand for used vans has increased along with values that now have a good van being worth just over £5,700. This is good news for us in that it means the demand for van driver training should be increasing as well.

According to BCA, the European vehicle auction giant, competition among professional buyers for used vans has increased consistently for the last three months. These professional buyers are looking for good-quality vans that are ready to go for retail delivery without the need for any modifications. BCA further explains that a more diverse range of stock and fewer duplications are combining to keep professional buyers interested.

The question is, why are all of these vans being purchased? High demand for used vans is a direct result of the growing online shopping sector. Even as brick-and-mortar stores struggle to remain competitive with their online counterparts, shopping online is as strong as it has ever been in the UK. People would prefer to do their shopping from the comfort of their homes and allow retailers to deliver merchandise directly to their doors.

The Van Driving Career

Our burgeoning online economy is such that we do not expect current trends to shift any time soon. As time goes on, we expect that the demand for new van drivers will increase commensurate with online sales. Between retailers, logistics companies, and parcel delivery services, employers are going to need drivers to get the goods where they need to go.

The van driving career is one option for someone interested in commercial driving but who does not want to operate larger vehicles such as articulated lorries. Drivers who obtained their car licences prior to 1 January 1997 can drive vans professionally after undergoing appropriate CPC training. All others will need van driver training to gain an additional entitlement. The good news is that training does not take long.

Our van driver training programme is designed to get students trained as quickly as possible without compromising the integrity of their training. In a matter of weeks, drivers can be ready to take the tests required in order to get the necessary licence. Then they are prepared to start looking for work.

It is clear that professional buyers are aggressively competing to purchase used vans for retail purposes. They need those vehicles to supply their retail customers who, themselves, are facing increased demand for delivery services. All of this translates into good news for you and us.

For you, it means a greater opportunity to get a job as a van driver. For us, it is an opportunity to expand our van driver training programme to more students. In the end, it is good for all of us.
