The Fork Lift Truck Association has announced the date and location for its 2015 National Fork Lift Safety Conference. The date will be September 23, 2015; the location is Loughborough University in Leicestershire. Conference organisers are hoping the 2015 event is as successful as the conference they held last year.

The one-day event will focus on peer-to-peer presentations from industry professionals with a goal of reducing the number of forklift accidents and their subsequent injuries and deaths. Unfortunately, the number of serious accidents in the UK remains persistently high. The Fork Lift Truck Association is determined that their annual conferences will be part of the solution through appropriate training and networking.

Forklift operators and industrial managers will be happy to know that the conference qualifies toward continuing professional development accreditation. The Fork Lift Truck Association will be awarding CPD credits equal to four hours to conference attendees who request them. Attending the conference is a good way to get some additional peer-to-peer training while also being brought up to date on the latest in the forklift operation sector.

This year’s conference will focus mainly on attitudes within the workplace. Scheduled speakers will directly address the idea of establishing a workplace culture in which anything less than best practice is not acceptable. They will also speak directly to the idea of reporting deficiencies as being helpful to the workplace, in the hope that more workers will talk openly about problems with on-site forklifts and operators.

A number of sponsors are on board with the 2015 conference including Jungheinrich, SHD Logistics, and Mentor Training. We urge anyone involved in forklift operation to consider attending in September. This is an excellent event seeking to improve the safety and efficiency of forklifts throughout the UK.

Importance of Quality Training

The National Fork Lift Safety Conference is an essential tool for creating a safe environment where forklift trucks are used. However, a one-day conference is not enough to change attitudes on its own. At the HGV Training Centre, we believe one of the best ways to change operator attitude is through direct training. This is why we take a very serious approach to the forklift training we offer.

We agree with conference organisers who believe our current safety issues go well beyond just learning to recognise pedestrians and manoeuvre in tight spaces. Due to there being no licencing requirement for forklift operators, we have an industrial environment in which forklift safety is probably not taken as seriously as it should be. We need to do our part to change that.

The HGV Training Centre offers comprehensive forklift training that we believe is among the best in the business. We challenge our students to adopt a safety-first mindset that puts the health and safety of other workers above everything else. We know that proper attitude and outlook can go a long way toward maintaining a stellar safety record. For more information about our forklift training, contact us at your earliest convenience.
