Future heavy goods vehicle drivers looking to take the HGV theory test are not legally required to undergo any formal training prior to sitting for the two-part exam. They need only submit their application and show up at the testing facility on the designated day. Still, we believe HGV driving schools provide a better avenue for test preparation while at the same time helping to prevent fraud in the system.

It should be easy to see how HGV training schools better prepare students to take the theory exam. Between classroom sessions and practice tests, schools not only teach candidates what they need to know about regulations and safe driving, but they also teach them how to take the exam. But what about fraud? How do training schools cut down on fraud in the testing system?

Paying Others to Sit

To understand the relationship between HGV training schools and fraud reduction, one need only consider the story of a 32-year-old man who went on the run for seven years after being caught in a scheme that involved paying others to take HGV theory tests on behalf of prospective new drivers. As reported by Wales Online, the man had taken and failed the theory test four times before hiring a fraudster to sit for him. That fraudster passed the test in a session in Swansea in 2009.

Authorities who suspected him of fraud looked at CCTV footage from the Swansea facility and were able to determine he did not, in fact, take the theory test himself. When the man showed up for his practical test in Staffordshire, he was subsequently arrested and prosecuted. He has since been sentenced to 24 weeks in jail.

The question is, why do some perspective HGV drivers hire substitutes to sit for them for the theory exam? Because they know they cannot pass themselves. Whether they have trouble with the language or they just don’t know how to study, those willing to commit fraud do so because they believe they have no other option. They do have an option, though – HGV driving schools.

We Prepare Students to Pass

We know HGV driving schools are a viable option because we train hundreds of students every month. A student who signs on to train with the HGV Training Centre is immediately provided with test software for preparation purposes. Those who wish to take classes on top of using the software are welcome to do so. By the time students complete a prep class, they are ready to take and pass the HGV theory test at the first attempt.

You can pass the test too, with the right kind of preparation. For more information about what we offer, give us a call and speak to one of our training specialists. We will tell you everything you need to know about the theory test and the scope of our highly successful training programmes. We will even sign you up if you are ready to get started.
