The HGV Training Centre offers preparation classes for both the HGV and LGV theory tests. However, these classes are not mandatory. Students can prepare for the tests on their own, and then take the exam whenever they are ready. So it should be no surprise that there are those students who use smartphone apps for this very purpose.
There are several apps for both Android and iPhone systems that students can use for test preparation. We will briefly list some of them here. Before we do, however, it should be noted that the theory test is a constantly evolving examination that is changed to prevent cheating. The smartphone apps listed below can give students a good idea of the types of questions they might encounter on an HGV or LGV theory test, but there are no guarantees the actual tests will look anything like what students face with an app.
With all that said, here are a few apps you might consider:
- UK LGV Theory Test (Webrich Software) – This paid app makes use of the DVSA question bank to provide practice questions. The app allows you to study by topic, read the Highway Code as an ebook and take mock tests. Users can see their test results in real time.
- LGV Theory Test (UK) (Vialsoft) – Another paid app with 1,000 up-to-date practice questions direct from the DVSA database. The app includes a digital edition of the Highway Code and the ability to take mock and practice tests at will.
- LGV Theory Test + HPT Kit (Deep River Development Ltd) – Among all of the paid apps, this one gives you the most for your money. Not only does it include thousands of 2015 theory test questions, it also provides 42 Official DVSA videos to help you learn and retain information.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can look online for organisations offering free practice questions and tests. There are quite a few of them as well. Having said that, we recommend you consider taking preparation classes with HGV Training Centre. There is a profound difference between preparing for the theory test yourself, using a free app or online mock test, and preparing with experienced trainers who are there to thoroughly explain the Highway Code and answer all of your questions.
