Training for Different Licence Classes

Training to become a professional driver involves some things that are common across all licence classes. But there are also some distinct differences from one licence class to another. The HGV, LGV and PCV classifications demonstrate as much. For example:

HGV Training – Training for the HGV licence is squarely focused on vehicles such as articulated lorries, bin lorries, and tipper trucks. Trainees usually earn either a category C or category C+E new licence to start with.
LGV Training – Training for the LGV (light goods vehicle) licence pertains to category C1 and category C1+E licences. These licences are intended for drivers operating delivery vans and HGVs with trailers weighing less than 750 kg. Box vans and other smaller vehicles are part of this category.
PCV Training – Training for a PCV licence is intended for drivers who want to operate coaches, buses, and the like. There is additional training for this licence category due to the fact that human cargo is involved. PCV drivers can earn additional endorsements to drive certain kinds of specialised vehicles.

And if a particular driver requires an enhanced licence to tow a larger caravan or trailer, our training prepares that individual to take the practical skills test.

Believe it or not, we even offer horsebox training. We realise that the vast majority of horsebox owners use their vehicles for recreational purposes and, as such, do not need enhanced licences. But we also realise that proper training is essential to keeping horses safe during transport. We are more than happy to provide that training to horse and horsebox owners.
