DSA Offers Multiple Ways to Practice for LGV Test

Individuals looking to become LGV drivers need to pass a theory test prior to beginning practical skills training. The theory test is designed to assess your knowledge of general highway safety and hazard identification and prevention.

To avoid multiple test attempts and failures, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has developed practise tests along with several other options drivers can use to prepare for the actual exam. We’ll look at two of those options in this space.

Online Practice Tests

The real theory test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions divided into two categories of 50 apiece. The first category is general highway safety while the second is hazard identification and prevention. In order to pass a driver must score at least 85 correct answers.

On the GOV.UK website are two practise tests provided by the DSA. Each test has been cut in half for time purposes, but the 50 questions provided give drivers a good idea of what they can expect when taking the real thing. The practise tests include a time limit in order to get the driver used to testing under such limits.

iPhone App

Yes, even the DSA is part of the mobile revolution. They have an iPhone app ready for download on any Apple mobile device. However, it’s not free. The cost is £5.99.

When you install the app, you have access to LGV practise tests utilising more than 1,000 questions from updated DSA question banks. You can take practise tests straight up or concentrate on questions within a specific category. Categories include things like accident handling, braking systems, and sharing the road with other users.
