If you are a professional van driver living near Cotswold, Gloucestershire, there is an opportunity for you to put your van driver training to good use by volunteering for a local hospice. The Cotswold Care Hospice is looking for new volunteer van drivers to join them so that they might provide better service to the local community.

According to the Stroud News & Journal, the hospice is currently served by a pair of veteran van drivers who visit local shops across the Cotswolds. They transport donated goods between outlet stores and the charity’s Nailsworth warehouse. With 14 local shops to service, there is plenty of volunteer work to go around.

The two drivers currently handling the rounds have been friends for 39 years. For them, working together on behalf of the charity is a labour of love that allows them to get out and about while helping a good cause. The drivers say that the job is not without benefits, despite it being volunteer work. Shop workers are extremely friendly and are never afraid to offer a cup of tea or some good conversation.

In order to be a volunteer driver you must be between the ages of 25 and 74. Drivers should also be in fairly good physical condition to be able to lift and carry heavy items. A full driver’s licence is necessary, but one does not have to be a professional driver to qualify.
