We dedicate ourselves to offering the best training courses at our 50 driver training centres across the UK. Horse trailer towing is something most people in the industry of horse transportation need to know about. Sadly, it’s not enough to simply know about it. You need the necessary licence to legally operate this vehicle trailer combination on the roads of the UK. As well as teaching you special skills to get to grips with, we train you for your upcoming licensing exam.
What Do You Need?
Horse trailers come in a range of shapes and sizes, and this means whilst you are qualified to drive one type of trailer you can’t drive a larger trailer. Naturally, this leads to a lot of confusion when it comes to the type of licence you need. Here’s a breakdown of the various qualifications applicable to horse trailer towing:
- Category ‘B+E’ enables you to drive a car with a trailer attached to it. For smaller horses and ponies this is the licence you need to transport them legally across the country. A course with us will take three days to complete, assuming you have no previous knowledge. If you passed your driving test before 1997 you automatically have the licence, but it’s strongly recommended you take a refresher course.
- Category ‘C1+E’ is needed for towing larger horses and multiple horses at the same time. It doesn’t give you access to the international horse transportation vehicles, but for most domestic jobs it’s sufficient. This course will take a week to complete with no prior knowledge.

Our Intensive Courses
You can take any of our intensive courses at one of 50 driver training centres across the country. Contact our customer support service to find out more about the centres closest to you. Qualified tutors who have experience towing horse trailers themselves take the classes and provide the benefit of their experiences. This method of doing things gives you a direct contact in the industry to learn from, and this is why nearly every student passes their exam the first time.
The Beauty of the Intensive Course
Learning the practical and theoretical side of things can take a while with all the rules and regulations in place. Not with us. We believe in reducing the amount of time it takes to acquire your licence, and therefore we ensure our intensive courses teach you everything you need to pass the exam, whilst avoiding a significant investment of time.
- Expect to find our horse trailer towing courses to teach you about how to pass the exam itself using the latest learning materials. For the best results, make sure you have access to a smartphone or computer.
- It means you don’t have to take off any time from work, or even quit. Some learning providers have longer courses where the students must quit or take a long holiday in order to learn new skills. Now you can carry on working to support yourself and your family.
